James 9-11 (pt3)

Today we are going to dig a little deeper into the next set of scriptures.

James 1:9-11 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; it’s flower falls, and it’s beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

God finds favor in the lowly. The world lowly that is. Rich nor poor matter to God. Money is too easily lost. He doesn’t look down on the rich only if they stay humble. It’s the humble He exalts. This is another place to examine yourself. If you do have a lot are something that glorifies God or impress the neighbors?

In 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 we find the same instruction and a better understanding of why. He wants the world to know for a fact it was God and not a human being. The lowly doesn’t have much to offer. They can’t boast because worldly speaking they have nothing. But when Christ comes in and does something amazing, the lowly can’t help but shout from the rooftops what God did for him/her. We are only to boast in Gods name.

Money itself is not evil. It can be used for good. It’s when we focus on the evil part of money, wanting more and more for yourself and never satisfied, this becomes a sin. We should view money as a gift from God. It’s only because of Him that we have it. In return we better glorify Him with it.

These scriptures give a very good metaphor that we need to really take a look at why we buy things. We can’t be so caught up in having things. If all the possessions you have were gone tomorrow what would be left?

It’s in our hearts that matters to God. It’s in our hearts that matters for eternity. So what’s in your heart? What drives you to do things. Remember God values the worldly weak and lowly and the humble rich.

I am going to quit here because I want you to really focus on these words. Hey I’m right there too. Let’s examine our hearts and make sure we are humbled. 💜
