Going to finish James 3 today. This section is about the wisdom that comes from God. Genuine Wisdom.
James 3:13 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, live a life of steady goodness so that only good deeds will pour forth. And if you don’t brag about the good you do, then you will be truly wise.
True wisdom is measured by a person’s character. Just as you identify a tree by the fruit it produces. So the behavior of someone is how you know. What comes from their mouth.
James 3:14-16 But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your hearts, don’t brag about being wise. This is the worst kind of lie. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and motivated by the Devil. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and every kind of evil.
Foolishness leads to disorder where wisdom leads to peace and goodness. A good question to ask, are you tempted to escalate the conflict, pass on the gossip, or fan the fire of discord. God loves peacemakers.
Don’t lie and say it’s from God. It’s earthly, demonic, of this world. Do not let the hard circumstance rule you.
James 3: 17-18 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of goodness.
Let’s take a look at the different types of wisdom: earthly wisdom: unspiritual, demonic above wisdom: pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy, good fruits, impartial, sincere.
Going to end on this: Before you speak make sure you ask yourself is it true? necessary? kind?
