Anxiety seems to be a popular word these days. One little stress and you diagnose yourself with it. But there is so much to anxiety. The meaning of it is worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. Psychiatrist say it’s the excessive uneasiness or apprehension, normally with panic attacks or compulsive behavior.
There are a ton of scriptures in the Bible about anxiety, worry, and fear. Philippians 4:6 says Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 1 Peter 5:7 says Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.
We need to think about what is causing the anxiety to creep into our lives. Are they valid reasons or irrational? These are some hard questions you need to ask yourself, myself included. I struggle with it since having my injury. Have had many panic attacks in the past 4 years. So I understand they are hard to deal with. Looking back most were irrational. There was no reason to be having one.
We also need to think about how we are handling them. Have they become an idol? Ouch! Another hurtful truth. When you feel them coming on you need to give them to God. Even before they come on, be in constant prayer that God would help you with your worries. Tell Him what is going on. He knows everything but He wants to hear it from you! I have been able to either stop a panic attack in its tracks or prevented one because I went to God. Now I have had some that I had to go through. I learned a lesson through it though.
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” -Matthew 6:27. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self control.” -2 Timothy 1:7
